Compatibility & sizes
Which containers fit?
In short: RACK takes any standard Euro container. For BOX and GRID the brand matters – because the inner size differs.
RACK
Any standard Euro container 60 × 40 or 40 × 30. Shelves and furniture only depend on the standard outer size – not the brand. Mix box heights freely; the calculator adapts the dimensions.
BOX & GRID
Snug fit for Bauhaus or OBI Euro containers 60 × 40 × 12 in the standard version with flat base. Both versions are in the same download. More brands will follow as a free update.
Why brand-specific?
Same outside, different inside
Euro containers taper slightly towards the base (draft angle). The narrowest point is always the base – and that is exactly where brands differ by several millimetres.
The dimensions are matched to the draft angle of each container type. The result is a secure, positive fit – and the containers still stack.
Measured, not guessed
Inner dimensions in mm
| Container | Base L × W | Rim L × W | Usable height |

| OBI 60 × 40 × 12 | 556.0 × 360.0 | 567.2 × 367.2 | 117 |
| Bauhaus 60 × 40 × 32 | 553.0 × 353.0 | 564.2 × 367.2 | 314 |

Other brands have not been measured and are therefore not listed as compatible. Got a different container? Send us the dimensions – it might be the next one. kontakt@spantwerk.com
Not all Euro containers are equal
What to look for when buying
We put boxes from different brands side by side, stacked them and turned them over. These are the differences that matter to you.

Reinforced base: sturdier, but shallower
Containers with a reinforced base sag less when you fill them with something heavy. In return, they are shallower inside.
For inserts, this means GRID, BOX and TOOL need an adjusted height – otherwise they stick out above the rim and the boxes no longer stack. Our current files are made for the standard version with a flat base.

Stacking: it fits, but not always firmly
Containers from different brands usually stack on each other – but how precisely depends on the combination. Some sit firmly, others slide around.
On top of that comes the draft angle: every brand tapers its boxes differently towards the base. That is exactly why BOX and GRID are designed for each brand.

Our tip: stick to one brand
Just starting your Euro container adventure? Then commit to one brand. Your boxes will stack neatly, inserts will fit every box, and you can always buy the same box again.
For RACK it does not matter – shelves and furniture take any standard container. For BOX and GRID it pays off.

DIY store or professional box?
The advantage of DIY-store containers: they are available everywhere and affordable. Boxes from professional suppliers such as Auer® are partly sturdier – but for home use, the Bauhaus and OBI boxes are perfectly sufficient.
One drawback of Auer boxes: there is a step running around the inside of the base. It makes snug-fitting inserts harder and wastes space at the edges. That is why Auer has not been measured (yet) and is not listed as compatible.
